The opposition is boycotting the IMF debate in the parliament saying that they cannot speak English.
There is a situation where the opposition parties will not participate in the three-day debate regarding the agreement signed between the government and the International Monetary Fund.
The reason for this is that the Sinhala and Tamil language translations of the agreement have been requested from the opposition.
The debate regarding this agreement will be held in Parliament on 26 27 28 and only the English version of the agreement has been submitted to Parliament so far.
The said agreement was also signed in English language only.
But the opposition is trying to escape from the debate by basing it on a language issue, said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the chief organizer of the ruling party.
The chief organizer of the opposition Mr. Lakshman Kiriella says that the copies in Sinhala and Tamil languages are essential for holding the debate.
